In the past, I've found #1 buckshot to pattern best for me and provide a good combination of number of pellets and size. About the only time I carry buckshot hunting is very early in the gun season, when all the leaves are still out, limiting my visibility from any distant shots, and when I'm hunting in a tangled swampy area that only presents close shots. slug, let me note that I only use buckshot after patterning specific loads to a specific gun, then would only take a shot at a deer at very short ranges, 35 yards or less, period. & up to an estimated 50 yds., deer hit with 8 or more 'OO' buck don't usually die instantly but don't go far. Before I ignite a firestorm over the whole question of buckshot vs. I'm thinking that 41 projectiles is a lot of holes to be knocking into something. Has anyone out there used #4 buckshot for deer, and if so, what kind of results did you get? The #4 buck is.
The Remington buckshot box lists #4 as being for Deer. The 2 3/4' shell has 27 buckshot pellets, and the 3' has 41. Picked up a couple boxes of #4 buckshot the other day, one box is 2 3/4' and the other 3'.
